DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
I avoid excessive ornamentation, preferring to dramatize architectural features or captivating views. |
SIMPLICITY
Good design is often about simplifying. My goal is to highlight the stunning view, the graceful tree, a painting, or the entry to a building. VISUAL INTEGRITY A space’s personality should influence design direction. I avoid excessive ornamentation, preferring to dramatize architectural features or captivating views using color, contrast, line and placement. I mix styles and periods in a cohesive way to create a timeless yet contemporary look. MAKEOVERS Re-purpose | Remove | Replace | Re-mix Whether it's a tired garden, a lackluster building entry or a past-its-prime interior, I find creative uses for existing furnishings, remove what doesn’t work, add a few distinctive items, then re-compose. I find a humble grandeur in any well designed object, whether bought or found, regardless of value or provenance. RE-PURPOSING Since I was a teen, I have engaged in creative re-use. Among such projects are: * A client’s faux-wood 1970s dresser that I had lacquered in bright orange for use as a show-stopping dining room sideboard. * A circa 1980 10MGB computer hard disk (the size of a large dinner plate) and printer board re-imagined as wall art. * Gold wooden drapery tiebacks re-used in a dining room as wall accents. * A moss-covered branch used as sculpture over a client’s mantel. |
